The Daemons of Chaos or Chaos Daemons are a race in Warhammer Fantasy which is speculated to be playable in the upcoming Total War: Warhammer III.

Lore[edit | edit source]

The Daemons of Chaos are evil creatures of pure magic, who come from another dimension called the Realm of Chaos. They cannot be truly killed - if their physical form is destroyed they will return to the Realm of Chaos. However they can be trapped, such as in war machines (Hellcannon) or weapons (The Slayer of Kings). They can only manifest in areas with lots of magic, and will disappear if magic is drained. This was the purpose of the Great Vortex - to drain away most of the excess magic in the world and prevent daemonic invasion. The Daemons of Chaos are naturally a Chaos aligned race.

Chaos Daemons are not the only kind of Daemon in the lore. There are also Verminlords of the Skaven, and K'daai of the Chaos Dwarfs.

Uniquely, the Daemons of Chaos also appear in Warhammer Fantasy's science fiction sister game, Warhammer 40k.

Evidence[edit | edit source]

Creative Assembly has said that, by the end of the Total War: Warhammer trilogy of videogames, they aim to make playable every race that had an army book in the 8th Edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle. This would include the Daemons of Chaos who had an army book in 8th Edition.

An early leak datamined from Total War: Warhammer by Russians, stated that the third game in the series would have four factions: Khorne, Tzeentch, Slaanesh and Nurgle. This may refer to four subfactions of Chaos Daemons. Creative Assembly has stated that the leak is now very outdated.

Creative Assembly also hinted at Daemons, stating that at least the Warriors of Chaos were "mostly man-shaped" and that in the coming games, the true horrors of Chaos will be revealed.

Daemon units[edit | edit source]

Currently there is only one daemon unit in the game: the Lord of Change (including two unique lords, Sarthorael the Everwatcher and Azrik the Maze Keeper).

Though in the lore, Dorghar is technically called a daemonic mount, the Hellcannon is possessed by a daemon, and The Slayer of Kings has a daemon trapped inside.
