The eastern border region of Norsca is an utterly pitiless landscape of high peaks locked in eternal winter, scoured by the winds of Chaos. The only creatures that seem to thrive here are Giants and Trolls - a fact that draws DwarfSlayers from every corner of the Karaz Ankor.
The Gianthome Mountains have been the centre of Dwarf activity in the region for many centuries. Before the Great Catastrophe, when the Dwarfs first emerged into The Dark Lands, a number of them split off from their kin and travelled northwards, looking for their own domain to call their own. They would found Kraka Drak in a mountain rich in precious metals and gemstones, and later several other strongholds close by. Over time, they developed a culture so distinct that the rest of their kin viewed them with suspicion, believing them touched by Chaos.
When the first humans came to colonise Norsca initial relations were friendly, and the two cultures appear to have had an influence on one another. However they swiftly soured as the humans were drawn more and more to the worship of Chaos. Although the Norscan Dwarfs held out for a long time and even flourished during periods where other parts of the Karaz Ankor were disintegrating, during the so-called War of the Mountains the Aeslings waged a war of extermination against them which culminated in the destruction of Kraka Drak.
The Dwarfs still persist here, and refugees have since resettled Kraka Drak, but they are a shadow of what they once were, and live under the constant threat of another, more thorough purge.
