The Great Book of Grudges (mechanic)
- Not to be confused with The Great Book of Grudges (item).
Dwarfs in Warhammer Fantasy are a vengeful race that does not forget any slight, no matter how minor.
How it works[edit | edit source]
Grudges are missions which task the player with seeking revenge for attacks on their faction. Grudges might tell the player to kill an enemy lord, assassinate an enemy hero, or conquer an enemy settlement (razing it to the ground if necessary). Players can view all current and avenged grudges by clicking The Great Book of Grudges button, which is at the bottom right of the screen on the campaign map. Next to this button is a small number, allowing you to see the current number of grudges at a glance.
Each grudge that appears in the Great Book has a base severity value. When viewing the campaign map, the total sum severity of all grudges can be seen at the top-center of the screen on the Grudges Bar. If you ignore a grudge, its severity will increase over time. Letting grudges pile up and increase in severity will incur faction-wide penalties to public order, leadership and diplomacy with other Dwarf factions. This represents your own people and other Dwarfs disapproving of your leadership.
Non-Dwarf factions do not keep grudges.
Grudge effects[edit | edit source]
|Satisfied||0-9 Total Severity||The Longbeards are silent because there are very few grudges unaccounted for, much to their annoyance as they like a good moan.|| Public Order: +1 |
Diplomatic relations: +5 with Dwarf Realms
|Middling||10-19 Total Severity||The Longbeards are grumpy, they gripe that while some grudges have been avenged, there are as many outstanding.|| Leadership: -2 for all units|
Public Order: -1
Diplomatic relations: -5 with Dwarf Realms
|Grumbling||20+ Total Severity||The Longbeards are fuming, many grudges have been left to fester, they rant about how this would "never happen in their day".|| Leadership: -4 for all units|
Public Order: -2
Diplomatic relations: -10 with Dwarf Realms
Campaign Victory[edit | edit source]
Grudges are part of the campaign victory objectives for Dwarfs and Clan Angrund:
- Short Campaign
- Keep total severity below 9
- Long Campaign
- Ensure that there are no remaining grudges that haven't been avenged
