With a crack of his whip, the Beastmaster torments his feral puppets, bringing even the unruliest critters to heel.

Description[ | ]

The Beastmasters of Clar Karond and Karond Kar can command even the wildest creatures to do their bidding. In part, this mastery springs from their unflinching dedication to the tormentor's craft, but brutality alone would be worthless without a Beastmaster's innate empathy. All Elves share a mystical attunement with the natural world, but while most embrace this bond to gain greater wisdom and fellowship with other living creatures, Dark Elves, and Beastmasters in particular, employ it as another weapon in their arsenal of torment. It matters not whether the beast is a raging Manticore, a cunning Harpy, or the wisest of all Caledor's ancient Dragons: eventually, all submit to the Beastmaster's will, or perish under his lash.

Attributes[ | ]

  • Wh2 dlc14 lord spear whip Spear & Whip Infantry
  • Anti-Large: Anti-Large: Anti-large units have an advantage against targets that are at least as large as a horse. This advantage can be a Modifier icon bonus vs largedamage bonus against large targets or an attack that focuses on a very small area. However, some units are simply better against large targets because their attacks are slow and easy to dodge by skilled melee combatants.
  • Charge Defence Against Large Foes: When standing and bracing against a charge of large enemies (such as cavalry or monsters) this unit will negate the enemy's charge bonus.

Strategy[ | ]

The High Beastmaster is a melee fighter Lord with skills that increase the effectiveness of monsters in the lord's army. He is as such a potent army leader for endgame monster-focused armies.

In battle he is similar to a Master, being an anti-large fighter with the ability to mount on a chariot or flying monster (a Manticore in the case of the Beastmaster). The Master has better armor-piercing, however the Beastmaster's mount is more offensive. Both can become anti-infantry when chariot mounted. Masters are plentiful to access (Tier 3 building gives capacity +2), so this is not necessarily a need your armies will be desperate to fill. However as a leader and buffer of a beast-centric army he is unmatched.

In the early game, the Beastmaster is overshadowed by Supreme Sorceresses for the triple reason that sorceress heroes are difficult to access (Tier 4 building) so your Lord may be your only source of magic, while Master heroes are easy to access (Tier 3 building increases capacity +2) so your need for more fighters will be low, as well as the fact that most of the good Dark Elves beasts are mid/late game units with high upkeep and/or Tier4-5 recruitment, so the Beastmaster tends to be stronger at leading in the mid/lategame.
