Overview[edit | edit source]
Hochland is a minor Empire faction introduced in Total War: Warhammer. It is led by Aldebrand Ludenhof and can be found in the northern central parts of the Empire.
Background[edit | edit source]
The Grand Barony of Hochland is a major and founding Imperial Province that lies to the north-central lands of the Empire. The lands of Hochland, like its neighbor Ostland, has within its boundaries parts of the Middle Mountains and vast tracts of untamed wilderness. Because of this, is often compared to its larger and wealthier northern neighbor. "Ostland's little brother" is a term often used, although not in Hochland.
Despite their backwards reputation, the people of Hochland are no less sturdy nor skilled than their neighbors in terms of military capability, with many of the best archer and marksmen regiments with the Empire's military having been born within the province itself. Like their brethren in neighboring provinces, the Hochland people are also quite resourceful, a trait that is often learned from a young age to all sons of a Hochland family. As well as being resourceful, the people of Hochland are also amazing hunters and trackers, a trait that originated from their former tribal traditions as the Cherusen people.[2]

Confederation Dilemma[edit | edit source]
This message is a part of the confederation offer played when their Fealty level with you reaches 10.
Hochland's feudal lands are wedged between the Middle Mountains to the north and River Talabec to the south. Hochlanders have developed a tolerance for foreigners that is considered unusual due to being a crossroads for the northern and eastern states.
Strategy[edit | edit source]
- Hochland is one of the smallest Empire faction in terms of settlements, as there are only two settlements in the province. That being said, they are in the center of the Empire and isolated from any threats unless they war with other Empire factions. Because of their small size they are not generally worth confederating and are almost better suited as a buffer against the forces of Chaos.
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Franz Lohner, the enigmatic innkeeper and leader of the Ubersreik Five of the Vermintide games, is of Hochland descent.[3]
