As long as the fire of the Great Temple lasts, Middenheim and Middenland will never fall.
~ Graf Boris Todbringer[1]
For the province named Middenland, please see: Middenland (province).

Middenland is a minor Empire faction introduced in Total War: Warhammer. It is led by the unique lord Boris Todbringer and is only playable in custom battles. It is located in the heart of the northern Empire.

Background[ | ]

The Grand Duchies of Middenland and Middenheim is a major and founding Imperial Province that lies at the heart of the northern Empire. Towering above the gloomy canopies of the Drakwald Forest is a sheer-sided pinnacle of white rock atop which sits the fortress-city of Middenheim, capital of Middenland and the holy City of the White Wolf. The White Wolf is the holy symbol of Ulric, the Imperial God of War, Winter and Wolves.

He is the patron Warrior God of the northern Empire, the Cult of Ulric being centered around the region and the impressive Temple of Ulric is a wonder of the city that attracts pilgrims of many nations. A powerful army clothed in the city-state colors of blue and white, nigh-impregnable walls and tirelessly patrolled by armies along the roads leading into the Ulricsberg.[2]

Strategy[ | ]

When playing as The Empire, Middenland can be a great ally, safeguarding you from Norscan and Beastmen invasions. On the other hand, playing as either Norsca or other ruinous factions such as Warriors of Chaos or Beastmen, the powerful armies led by Boris "Toddy" Todbringer can easily halt your invasion of the imperial lands. Todbringer and his faction starts with a relatively low affinity for Karl Franz as Emperor when playing The Empire as of The Empire Undivided Update.

The advisor tells you that Boris is disagreeing with you, Karl Franz, being elected as Emperor. In early quest battles you fight Middenland troops, sent to aid the Empire Secessionists. Regardless of this, you have a rather good standing with Middenland and the quest battles do not affect your relationship.

Given that Middenland has fealty for you regardless of what Empire faction you play, it is best to ignore Middenland and focus on threats such as Vampires and Greenskins instead. Thanks to having a unique lord in Boris and being relatively isolated from major threats, the faction is unlikely to fall to any threats. In Immortal Empires, however, Boris is liable to be the victim of multiple factions, eliminating him. However, this allows for reviving Middenland repeatedly and farm legitimacy whenever Todbringer brings Tod upon himself.

Trivia[ | ]

  • Victor Saltzpyre, one of the famed Ubersreik Five of the Vermintide games, is from Middenland.
  • In multiplayer (and possibly the ai when in campaign?) this faction cannot recruit Arch Lectors, Warrior Priests, Flagellants, The Tattersouls, or Sigmar's Sons as they are all associated with Sigmar which Middenland is less friendly towards compared to Ulric.
