Obsidian Peaks is a province introduced in Total War: Warhammer II.

Background[ | ]

The fall of axes, the sawing of wood and the crack of whips echo around the Obsidian Peaks. This is the heartland of Dark Elven industry, centred around the city of Clar Karond. Here, the black wood harvested from the Doom Glades and the ridges above the city are turned into the warships that the Dark Elves stalk the globe in. They don't perform the work themselves of course - thousands of slaves are set to the task. Fattened by the profits of slavery and natural despoilation, Clar Karond is an ever-expanding city, with the distinctive Naggarothi minarets haphazardly climbing further and further into the newly bared ridges above the Redvenom River. What bestial response might be stirred by such feckless rapacity concerns no-one.

The Dark Elves are vigilant here, because the area is essential to the running of their war machine, and not coincidentally it is a target landing area for the High Elves in their intermittent attempts to carry the fight to their hated brethren. North of Clar Karond is the site of one of the Dark Elves' more spectacular victories over the Asur. An invading fleet bound for Naggarond was lured to a spot where Sorceresses had spent days concentrating their fell magics into a single, huge sigil of destruction. As the High Elves charged towards the Dark Elf line over the hidden sigil, it was ignited, and the entire High Elf army was immolated in an instant. The land still carries the huge blackened scar of the spell to this day.
