And as we lay here prostrate, Nordland and Talabecland plot to land the final blow...
~ Elector Count Valmir von Raukov[1]
For the province named Ostland, please see: Ostland (province).

Ostland is a minor Empire faction introduced in Total War: Warhammer. It is led by Valmir von Raukov and can be found in the northeastern reaches of the Empire.

Background[ | ]

The Grand Principality of Ostland is a major and founding Imperial Province that lies at the very northern border of the Empire of Man. Ostland is a realm of damp, creeping mists and shifting shadows, and is covered almost entirely by the dark canopy of the Forest of Shadows. The people of this land have learned to live out a rugged life among the ancient trees, clearing patches of land for their farms and settlements, and keeping a watchful eye on the dark depths of the forest.

Lying at the very forefront of the Empire's northern frontiers, the province of Ostland is at a state of near-constant war. Chaos Warbands invading from the north are simply a fact of life for the Ostlanders, and such harsh living as bred these people into a war-like society like their brethrens of Nordland and Middenland. Being the descendants of the ancient Udoses tribe of Sigmarian times, the Ostland people have since earned themselves a reputation amongst the Imperial provinces as a stubborn yet patriotic citizenry, who have fought, bled, and endured countless invasions since even before the founding of the very Empire itself.[2]

This message is a part of the confederation offer played when their Fealty level with you reaches 10.

Ostland's northern frontier faces the Sea of Claws resulting in a mild exposure to Chaos, but Kislev provides a land buffer between Ostlanders and the horrors of the far north. Von Raukov's capital Wolfenburg is nestled in the foothills of the Middle Mountains, providing access to lucrative gold mines.

Trivia[ | ]

  • Markus de Mandelot (formerly Markus Kruber) of the Vermintide game series had previously fought in the 8th Ostland Swordsmen regiment. He also sometimes refers to Ostland, such as when shouting "Bull of Ostland!" while charging through hordes of Skaven.
