Settlement options are options that players can pick after capturing a settlement on the campaign map, or when moving an army into a ruin. Settlement options can differ depending on which race you are playing.

"Razing" and "sacking" both redirect here. Please see below for what these options do.

Settlement options should not be confused with post-battle options.

Captured Settlement[edit | edit source]

Standard[edit | edit source]

Some or all of these options are available to many different races.

The Empire, Dwarfs, Vampire Counts, High Elves, Lizardmen, Dark Elves use only these:
Option Effect
Occupy Occupies the settlement.
Reduces public order temporarily (-10 flat reduction, and then a further -10 which reduces by -1 each turn).
Loot and Occupy Occupies the settlement.
Increases the treasury moderately.
-30 public order flat, and then a further -10 which reduces by -1 per turn.
Sack Increases the treasury greatly.
Army cannot also raze in the same turn.
Raze Increases the treasury moderately.
Destroys the settlement turning it into ruins.

Bretonnia[edit | edit source]

Option Effect
Occupy Same as standard.
Sack Increases the treasury greatly.
Army cannot also raze in the same turn.
Reduces Brt Amber.pngchivalry.
Raze Same as standard.

Greenskins[edit | edit source]

Greenskins
Option Effect
Occupy Same as standard.
Sack Same as standard.
Loot and Occupy Same as standard.
Raze Increases the treasury moderately.
Destroys the settlement turning it into ruins.
When Greenskins raze a settlement, it leaves behind harmful vandalism buildings.

Warriors of Chaos[edit | edit source]

Warriors of Chaos
Option Effect
Sack Same as standard.
Raze Increases the treasury moderately.
Destroys the settlement turning it into ruins.
This also creates a Chaos Portal which spreads Chaos Corruption.

Beastmen[edit | edit source]

Beastmen
Option Effect
Loot & Raze Razes settlement, turning it into ruins
Increases Total Favour (treasury).
Raze & Defile Razes settlement, turning it into ruins.
Erects a Herdstone or Beastmen Totem which gives +100 Chaos Corruption.
Gives +8 Horde Growth

Wood Elves[edit | edit source]

Wood Elves
Option Effect
Occupy Occupies settlement.
Only available for forest settlements inside Athel Loren.
Seeding Occupies settlement, creates an Asrai Lookout.
Only available for settlements outside Athel Loren.
Raze Same as standard.

Norsca[edit | edit source]

Norsca
Option Effect
Occupy Occupies settlement.
Only available for racial capitals, ports and settlements in Norsca.
Sack Same as standard.
Subjugate Available when defeating the leader of an enemy Norscan Tribes faction in battle and taking their capital settlement.
Makes the faction your vassal.
Enslaves the captives, if any.

In TWW2, rather than this option, you will instead get a dilemma: Warlord Defeated, Throgg Defeated or Wulfrik Defeated.

Raze for the Serpent Razes settlement and puts Serpent monument, giving allegiance with the Serpent.
+6 favour with the Serpent, -2 favour with each of the other Gods.
Raze for the Eagle Razes settlement and puts Eagle monument, giving allegiance with the Eagle.
+6 favour with the Eagle, -2 favour with each of the other Gods.
Raze for the Crow Razes settlement and puts Crow monument, giving allegiance with the Crow.
+6 favour with the Crow, -2 favour with each of the other Gods.
Raze for the Hound Razes settlement and puts Hound monument, giving allegiance with the Hound.
+6 favour with the Hound, -2 favour with each of the other Gods.

Tomb Kings[edit | edit source]

Tomb Kings
Option Effect
Occupy Occupies the settlement.
Reduces public order temporarily (-10 flat reduction, and then a further -10 which reduces by -1 each turn).
Provides Canopic jars.pngCanopic jars.
Can be done by a Ptra's Necrotect hero, who can occupy at a higher level.
Sack Increases Treasury
Provides unit replenishment
Decreases public order for the enemy
Raze Razes settlement, turning it into ruins.
Increases treasury
Provides Canopic jars.pngCanopic Jars.

Skaven[edit | edit source]

Skaven
Option Effect
Loot and Occupy Increases replenishment
Treasury increased
Reduces public order in the settlement.
Can spend Food resource.pngfood to occupy at a higher level.
Sack Same as standard.
Raze Same as standard.

Vampire Coast[edit | edit source]

Vampire Coast
Option Effect
Occupy Occupies the settlement.
Reduces public order temporarily (-10 flat reduction, and then a further -5 which reduces by -1 each turn).
Sack Increases the treasury greatly. Army cannot also raze in the same turn.
-10 public order for the owning faction.
Your units replenished by an extra percentage.
Raze Increases treasury by a small amount.
Increases infamy.
Establish a Pirate Cove Only available for port settlements.
Establishes a Pirate Cove
-10 public order over time
Increases treasury by a moderate amount.
Your units replenished by an extra percentage.

Ruins[edit | edit source]

When ruins are entered, there is the following options:

Colonise
  • This is available to all races except hordes. Creates a level 0 settlement which can be repaired. If vandalism buildings are present, then they must be demolished first. Costs money and takes troops/health from every unit in the army.
  • Skaven can spend food to colonise settlements at a higher level than zero.
  • Tomb Kings can spend a Ptra's Necrotect to colonise at a higher level.
Treasure Hunt / Search Ruins
  • This option was added in Total War: Warhammer II. Armies/lords can now treasure hunt, getting a choose-your-own adventure style event which can result in positive, neutral or negative outcomes.
Do nothing
  • Armies can leave without doing anything.
