A boar-mounted Savage Orc Big 'Un has a powerful charge and a really unpleasant line in melee skills.

Savage Orc Boar Boy Big 'Uns are a Greenskins Greenskins melee cavalry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer.

Recruitment[ | ]

Description[ | ]

Although Savage Orc Boar Boyz wear no armour save an occasional hidebound shield, they are remarkably hard to bring down. These nearly-bare brutes can ride through clouds of arrows and emerge unscathed (although perhaps much angrier). Even in close combat, Savage Boar Boyz can withstand all but the most determined of blows. This is due to their sturdy hides, the thick-muscled, protective mounds of their smelly boar mounts, and their own mystical warpaint. While tough as old boots, Savage Orc Boar Boyz are better known for the prodigious damage they cause when they charge. They crash into enemy units with an unparalleled ferocity - boar tusks, crude axes, or flint-tipped spears that all jab, thrust and stab in a frenetic assault. In their recklessness some Savage Orcs even fight with a weapon in each hand, using their legs alone to clutch onto their mounts. These Savage Orcs are a whirling maelstrom of destruction, hacking and flailing with abandon - Savage Orc Big 'Uns on war boars are more fearsome still!

Attributes[ | ]

  • Shock cavalry boar Shock Cavalry
  • Armour-Piercing: The damage of Modifier icon armour piercingarmour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets.
  • Bigger & 'Arder: The heaviest, strongest and meanest of Orcs, Big 'Uns are eager to prove it against enemies of all sizes.
  • Warpaint: The colourful tattoos on their bare skin grant Savage Orcs 30% Physical Resistance, which reduces the damage from any non-magical attack.

This unit is similar to Orc Boar Boy Big 'Uns with less melee defence compensated for with improved melee stats and physical resistance. Notably they have half the Bonus vs. large of Boar Big 'Uns, making them more of a generalist/not as strong against large units. They also have Frenzy which does make them immune to psychology and dealing more damage so long as their leadership is high. Overall, bring standard boar boy big 'uns if you want them purely on anti-large duty and do not worry about fear or terror. Bring the Savage Orc variant when facing fear/terror and when you want a more general heavy cavalry (also beware magic damage that will circumvent their physical resistance). Still, do not expect either variant to take down something like Blood Knights or Demigryph Knights without support.
