Guardians of the sacred places of Avelorn, these peerless archers are incorruptible.

Sisters of Avelorn are a High Elves High Elves missile infantry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer II with the The Queen and the Crone.

Recruitment[ | ]

Description[ | ]

Sisters of Avelorn are keen-eyed archers, Elf maids chosen from the ranks of the citizen levy by the Everqueen's personal decree. By tradition, only the most gifted are welcomed into the Sisters of Avelorn for, just as the Everqueen embodies all that is ideal and unblemished in the Elven race, so too must her chosen guardians; not only in mind and body, but also in pursuit of the spiritual. Such measures serve to raise the warriors of the Maiden Guard above the petty intrigues that often pervade the Everqueen's court, ensuring that they remain incorruptible.

Attributes[ | ]

  • Missile infantry bow Missile Infantry
  • Armour-Piercing Missiles: The damage of Modifier icon armour piercingarmour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets.
  • Bows of Avelorn: Loosing arrows of mystical blue fire, they excel at setting vulnerable units ablaze and piercing the toughest armour.
  • Decent Melee Combatant: Despite being primarily a missile unit or spellcaster, this unit can also hold its own ground when fighting in melee.
  • Good Range: This unit has a larger range than most other units of the same class. This allows it to take out hostile missile units before they can come into firing range.

Strategy[ | ]

The magic arrows used by the Sisters ignore physical resistance, pierce armor, AND do extra damage to regenerating creatures. Suffice to say they are one of the most deadly ranged units in the game. Additionally Sisters have surprisingly good melee attack/defense, leadership, and weapon damage for ranged units. Even against dedicated melee units the sisters are quite good at holding their own in melee. That said, their health and armor are fairly low, meaning they will typically lose extended engagements or against high tier melee units, and are fairly vulnerable to focused return fire. In general you will be best served if you're able to keep the sisters continuously firing on the enemy without taking focus from enemy ranged units.

Sisters of Avelorn are the most effective unit in the High elf army roster. They have great missile damage and decent melee stats. This makes it possible for Sisters of Avelorn to function without a front guard, as they can decimate any approaching enemies and deal with the stragglers if they reach melee range. A doomstack for the High Elves, the most effective army one can create for the faction, consists of a lord (preferably punitive trait), a handmaiden (preferably resistant trait), a light wizard (any trait), 15 Sisters of Avelorn, and 2 Eagle Claw Bolt Throwers. This army could single-handedly take on multiple enemy armies (except maybe other doomstacks) and come out on top.

Due to the High Elves' strong late-game economy, it is totally feasible to sustain 8 or 9 of these doomstacks to finish up your late campaign.

It's not recommended to use this doomstack against high entity armies such as Skaven, because you are likely to deplete your ammunition before you are able to inflict enough damage to defeat them
