Summoners of Rage are a Warriors of Chaos melee monstrous infantry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer. Calling upon violent storms, these monsters manifest their anger in terrifying lightning displays that frequently end in mass death.

Description[edit | edit source]

Dragon Ogres are amongst the most ancient of the world's living creatures. Their incredible longevity, as with almost all things supernatural, is the work of the Chaos Gods. Aeons ago, the elders of their race made a pact with the Ruinous Powers, embracing damnation in order to save themselves from a slow decline into extinction. They were given eternal life, and in return, the entire Dragon Ogre race put themselves at the command of the Dark Gods. Since that day, the Dragon Ogres have carved their names across the ages as immortals who can only die in battle, monstrous beings that rouse themselves only in the name of destruction.

Attributes[edit | edit source]

  • Armour-Piercing: The damage of armour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets.
  • Anti-Large: Anti-large units have an advantage against targets that are at least as large as a horse. This advantage can be a damage bonus against large targets or an attack that focuses on a very small area. However, some units are simply better against large targets because their attacks are slow and easy to dodge by skilled melee combatants.
  • Scaly Skin: Scaly skin or hides help to dampen or deflect the damage caused by missile weapons, increasing this unit's Missile Resistance.

Dragon Ogres with magicial attacks and a bound chain lightning spell. Dragon orgres were already efficient fighters that could take on many other units in the game and win. Aside from the veterancy boost to melee attack and defence, this unit does not improve all that much as a melee combatant. The magic attacks may be relevant in some matchups, but not usually. Chain Lightning is more of a useful utility that allows them to clear out infantry better, than help them win a key engagement. Bring these ogres if you fear enemies with physical resistance or you want the extra infantry clearing power.
