Counters is a shorthand for units that cancel another unit type's advantages, making them perfect for deployment against that force.
Basic counters[ | ]
- Most polearm units counter cavalry, monstrous infantry, monstrous cavalry and monsters
- Most ranged units counter melee infantry, provided they can keep away from them
- Cavalry and flying monsters counter ranged units
- Melee infantry counter polearm units
- Units with armour-piercing damage counter units with high armour stats
- Units with anti-large trait counter cavalry, monstrous infantry, monstrous cavalry and monsters
- Units with anti-infantry (this is often units with dual weapons / berseker units) counter infantry
- Units with fire damage counter units with regeneration (such as Trolls (Greenskins), or units with a weakness to fire (such as the Treeman or Tomb King)
- Units with magic damage counter etheral units (such as Cairn Wraiths, Syreens and Angrund Ancestors)
- In TWW3, units with spell resistance counter spellcasters
- In earlier games, units with magic resistance counter units with magic damage
