The Siren of the Storm’s tortured soul vengefully roams the world’s seas, singing her paralysing songs of death.

Cylostra Direfin is a Vampire Coast Vampire Coast Legendary Lord unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer II with Curse of the Vampire Coast. In the campaign, she leads The Drowned The Drowned.

Description[ | ]

Cylostra Direfin is the vengeful spirit who commands the Lamprey, a cursed ship that oft appears in the raging tempests of the open sea. Many decades ago, Cylostra was the favourite court singer of Bretonnian royalty, a prima donna of considerable size and temper who never accepted anything less than getting her own way. Cylostra was a passenger on the Lamprey during an important diplomatic voyage to perform for the Phoenix King. The galleon went down in a vicious storm, drowning everyone on board. As the Lamprey sank down beneath the waves, her futile, pitch-perfect notes turned to shrill, gurgled screaming. Those who know the legend of the ‘Siren of the Storm’ flee in terror at the sight of her ghostly, barnacle-strewn galleon, for it is said that when it appears, her songs of death paralyse all unfortunate enough to hear them, right before her Undead crew – the Drowned – appear to drag them down into a watery grave.

Trivia[ | ]

  • Cylostra Direfin is the first original legendary lord character designed by Creative Assembly and implemented with permission from Games Workshop.[1]
  • Cylostra Direfin's starting Damned Paladin is named Robert Barthelemy and has a helmet with antlers. This is most likely a reference to Robert Baratheon, a king and former knight in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. Robert Baratheon's kingdom is the Stormlands, known for it's windswept, stormy weather just like Cylostra Direfin.
  • Creative Assembly on Cylostra's sound design: "Cylostra was interesting as she was a new character. Finding the actress was a challenge as we had to find someone who could sound larger than life, be a complete diva, but also knock out those big operatic notes! We recorded her spellcasting and screams in different notes and linked this with the music system so that a different note is played depending on which key the music is being played in at the time. To make her sound undead she got a lot of reverb and delay on her voice. A fun fact is that everyone else in the game pronounces her surname as “dire-fin” in a very plain, English way, but she always says it in a more elegant, French style “dear-fan” Some of you may remember a British TV show from the 90s called Keeping Up Appearances where the main character was called Hyacinth Bucket but she always pronounces her surname in a more elegant, French-sounding way: 'bouquet'."[2]
