Every Squire dreams of becoming a Knight, and every Knight dreams of having a better Squire...

Foot Squires are a Couronne Bretonnia melee infantry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer with Bretonnia (DLC).

Recruitment[ | ]

Description[ | ]

Serving their Knightly masters in both times of peace and war, Squires are effectively errand boys for their Lord, fulfilling menial or unsavoury tasks that their masters would prefer to delegate. Yet in battle, they fight with every ounce of skill and ferocity that their training has given them, using their two-handed blades to cleave through all foes in the name of the Lady, Bretonnia, and their Lord’s glory. For a Squire, every battle is a chance to perform some great deed or service to his master; it is his only chance – albeit a miniscule one – to be elevated to Knighthood.

Attributes[ | ]

  • Infantry sword great Greatsword Infantry
  • Anti-Infantry: Anti-infantry units have an advantage against targets that are smaller than a horse. This advantage can be a damage bonus against small targets, superior weight used to smash through lighter enemies, or an explosive attack from range that effects a large area.
  • Armour-Piercing: The damage of Modifier icon armour piercingarmour-piercing weapons mostly ignores the armour of the target, making them the ideal choice against heavily-armoured enemies. They are often heavier and attack at a slower rate though, making them less efficient against poorly-armoured targets.
  • Damage Dealer: This unit has a strong emphasis on dealing damage. If fighting it, make sure to take it out before it can get into firing or melee range.

Foot Squires are the Bretonnian Greatsword, but not as good. For the weak infantry of Bretonnia they are a solid upgrade, gaining significant armour and leadership over Men at Arms. Their armour piercing is great and their bonus vs. infantry makes them adept at taking down or at least dealing significant damage to armoured infantry. That being said their Melee stats are pretty bad. This means that they should stick to fighting infantry, where they get their combat bonus, and should be supported using Knights or magic if you want them to win an engagement. foot Squires will deal damage and hold the line for a bit, but unlike Greatswords they won't win the day on their own. They require Knights or other elements to win that battle.
