Atop their venomous mounts, Goblin Riders can run down enemies with surprising precision.

Forest Goblin Spider Riders are a Greenskins Greenskins melee cavalry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer.

Recruitment[ | ]

Description[ | ]

The giant spider breed grows large enough to serve as mounts for Forest Goblins, who capture and hand-rear these scuttling nightmares. There are many sub-types of giant spider, such as Tilean Greybacks, Drakwald Mancatchers, and the Scarlet Deathheads of the Great Forest, to name just a few. All are poisonous and have steely, pincer-like mandibles that can punch through platemail to deliver a toxic bite. While not as fast as wolves or horses, these spiders can move at speed through the most dense patches of woods. Forest Goblin Spider Riders have become masters at stalking their prey, nimbly guiding their multi-legged beasts to scuttle across the treetop canopy to get into the ideal position before pouncing. Spider Rider mobs are known to ambush Empire patrols, eradicate Beastmen herds and even attack large monsters that encroach into their territory.

Abilities[ | ]

  • Cavalry spider Cavalry
  • Shielded: Shields have a chance of blocking arrows, bolts, rifle shots and similar small arms fire - but only in a forward facing arc.
  • Poison Attacks: The Modifier icon poisonpoisonous attacks of this unit weaken the target's speed and damage and/or apply the Poison! debuff.

Strategy[ | ]

Forest Goblin Spider Riders at first glance do not seem all that impressive. However, they are an extremely valuable unit to the Greenskins and can be a useful component to an army. First they are incredibly fast, allowing greater battlefield control. Should they be contested by other cavalry, they put up a fight by poisoning their enemies, and their melee stats are decent. They also have shields to protect from ranged attacks. Vanguard Deployment allows them to come from unexpected angles as well and surprise enemy archers and artillery. When they have finished routing off the backline, they can be used to rear charge the front line (again applying poison to everything they hit) and then chasing routing units off of the battlefield.
