Strategy[ | ]

Different from all of the other mage casters of the High Elves, the Mage of Fire can mount a Sun Dragon, making them a much more powerful melee combatant. It is meant to reflect the Dragon Mages of Caledor. This is similar to the special options of the Amber Wizard for The Empire.

The High Elves bring many forms of fire damage which the Fire Mage can support with their Kindleflame passive (the enemy army gets 20% weakness to fire for 15 seconds after any spell cast by the Fire Mage). Cast a low-cost spell like Cascading Fire Cloak and then use powerful attacks from other fire-based units such as: Flamespyre Phoenixes (regular attacks and their active ability), Lords with the Incendiary trait or items giving flaming attacks, Sun Dragons (attacks and breath weapon), Archers RoR unit (Talons of Tor Caleda), any unit with the Banner of Eternal Flame, Arcane Phoenixes (regular attacks and active ability). All of these damages can be increased 20% with the Fire Mage's passive.

A good double-wizard High Elf army is a Fire Mage under a Life, Light, or High Archmage. This allows both mages to mount dragons, with the Fire Mage as the damage dealer and the Archmage bringing utility. If the Archmage takes the powerful Incendiary trait, then the Fire Mage's Kindleflame passive will weaken enemies to the Lord's flaming attacks. Using the Fire Mage to cast a minor spell before using the dragon's breath attack will also proc Kindleflame for a few seconds and strengthen the damage of the breath attack.
