This page is about the current WH3 version. For the old WH2 version, see Slaves (Total War: Warhammer II).

Icon slavesSlaves are a special resource/currency used by Dark Elves in the campaign of Total War: Warhammer III. Slaves are primarily gained in battle, and a small number can be gained passively. Slaves provide additional income from buildings and can be used to rush construction, but they reduce Icon public order control. Slaves are required to pay for Dark Elves rites.

Note that Dark Elf slaves have gone through multiple reworks since the release of Immortal Empires, and may go through more. This page was last updated for patch 3.1.

Overview[ | ]

Unlike in Total War: Warhammer II, slaves are not stored in a specific province, and are instead owned by the faction as a whole. The total amount of Slaves you own is shown in the top center of the screen, when viewing the campaign map. Having a low number of slaves (below 2000) will increase Icon public order control across all provinces, while having a large number of slaves will reduce it.

Getting Slaves[ | ]

The following actions will gain slaves:

Spending Slaves[ | ]

Certain Infrastructure buildings generate additional income and other benefits if your total number of slaves is above a certain threshold, but then expend that same number of slaves. Slaves are consumed and bonus effects are applied on a per building basis, so buildings may provide their bonus effects and then consume enough slaves that other buildings do not. High levels of Icon public order control will reduce the number of slaves consumed by buildings, while low control will increase that number.

Like Chaos Dwarfs, Dark Elves can spend slaves to rush construction of buildings. Whenever you construct a building, a button will appear next to the number of turns that the building takes to complete. Pressing this button will immediately finish the building at a cost of 150 slaves per turn that the building was rushed. You can reduce this cost with commandments, technologies, and other effects. You can also rush construction when the building is already partway done, which will cost fewer slaves. For example, if a building would normally take five turns to complete, you could spend 750 slaves to complete it immediately, or wait three turns and then spend 300 slaves to complete it then.

Slaves are also expended to pay for Dark Elves rites.

Dark Elves have three Diktats, which are special abilities that can be activated in a province at the cost of slaves. When a Diktat is activated, it goes in cooldown in all provinces. Each Diktat lasts either one or five turns, and only one Diktat can be active in a province at a time. The three Diktats are:

  • Fights to the Death: IncreasesIcon public order control in the current province
  • Open Markets: Generates treasury when activated
  • Slave-Drive: Provides growth in the current province
