Unit size[]

New user, not sure how to speak about this with correct technical language... But Unit Size in terms of # of individuals in the unit is displayed in the "Overview" section of the infobox, including Unit Size at all scales from Small to Ultra.

The Unit Size field in the "Recruitment" section of the infobox which I have removed is, I believe, a reference to whether the unit is considered "small" or "large" in terms of how weapon strength bonuses apply.

The Unit Size in terms of # of individuals is already correctly displayed for Empire Spearmen.

The Unit Size in terms of physical size of individuals is not displayed or used in the vast majority of units on the wiki, so I assumed it was not supposed to be displayed anymore? But certainly should not be listed as "120" which is the # of individuals on Ultra unit scale.

Do I misunderstand? --SeigeVan (talk) 16:45, 13 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi Seigevan. The unit size in this template denotes whether the unit is small or large (that's what the picture represents), but the numkber behind it shows the number of models at the larges size setting (thus ultra).
The other part of unit sizes was added to the infobox later on and that does indeed name all unit sizes (from small to ultra) because I personally added that info (previously we only mentioned large there). The Spearmen (The Empire) page is currently one of the unit pages that's up to standards, the page itself and the accompanying templates (including this one). We do have a lot of unit pages that need updating (and yes all of that is manual labour) but not this one. You can use the Spearman page (and related templates) as an example of how they should look :)
The Unit size as part of these main templates (like the one this talk page belongs too) were fixed in the template by user Kingdude to denote the difference between small or large entity size (which we also didn't do in the past). So yes, the 120 unit size is mentioned in two places in the infobox currently, but removing that line completely is also removing the picture that denotes whether the unit is counted as a "small" or "large" entity.
I personally am open to a discussion (as I mentioned in the edit summary, we have a Discord channel were you can also talk to our admins) to make sure the unit size (the actual number of models) isn't mentioned double, but simply removing this line isn't the solution. As said earlier, this page, "Spearmen (The Empire)" is exactly what we currently am looking for as a standard unit page. Another example would be unit pages for the Chaos Dwarf units. There's a lot more unit pages (Greenskins, Vampire Counts, Lizardmen, Skaven, etc etc) that need updating to this standard. Kennyannydenny (talk) 16:57, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Oh and I forgot to respond on "The Unit Size in terms of physical size of individuals is not displayed or used in the vast majority of units on the wiki, so I assumed it was not supposed to be displayed anymore?". That was an incorrect assumption. It is still being used, it's just that things need to be added manually, we have a very limited number of active users, and we simply weren't able to update all templates on unit pages yet. Races that are done are for example Vampire Coast, Chaos Dwarfs, and The Empire. These are the quality we strife towards for all unit pages. Not the other way around. So yes, most pages on the wiki don't show that info yet, but that's just because those haven't been updated yet, not because we're not using it. Kennyannydenny (talk) 17:01, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Cool thanks for the explanation! Sorry to cause a hassle.--SeigeVan (talk) 17:14, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
No problems at all, it's not a hassle and I really don't mind explaining it to you! :) Please don't feel like you're not allowed to update things/edit pages, we welcome new editors with open arms. If you ever need help with things, you can always ask me or the other editors here on the site or on the Discord channel (we don't get a notification of messages on our user pages so those might get missed sometimes, just a heads up). Our two admins, Revoran and Dunpeal, are also very helpful. Kennyannydenny (talk) 17:20, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
