Floating and weaving through the battle line; an expressive demonstration of violence.

Wardancers are a Wood Elves Wood Elves melee infantry unit introduced in Total War: Warhammer with the Realm of The Wood Elves.

Recruitment[ | ]

Description[ | ]

Wardancers roam Athel Loren in tightly-knit troupes, treading paths and secret ways that few others know or dare use. Other Wood Elves regard the Wardancers as wild and unpredictable, and not without cause, for they are the servants and worshippers of the Elven Trickster God, Loec. The Wardancers lead the Elves in music and rejoicing, and perform the intricate dance rituals that re-enact the history of Athel Loren, a form of storytelling more important to the Wood Elves than the more conventional method of writing. Wardancers are sublime warriors, made even more deadly through their war dances. For these, the favoured rituals of the Trickster God, no rhythm is called nor are orders issued. Instead, the dancers instinctively enact a pattern of lethal movements, complementing the dances performed by the rest of the troupe. Each Wardancer leaps and pirouettes through the enemy ranks to music only she hears, gracefully evading her opponent's clumsy blows and ending his life with an impossibly swift strike of her own.

Attributes[ | ]

  • Wh2 main infantry dual swords Dual Sword Infantry
  • Forest Stalker: The Elves of Athel Loren gain bonuses to melee defence and accuracy while fighting within the forest.
  • Anti-Infantry: Anti-infantry units have an advantage against targets that are smaller than a horse. This advantage can be a damage bonus against small targets, superior weight used to smash through lighter enemies, or an explosive attack from range that effects a large area.
  • Shadow Dances of Loec: The servants and worshippers of Loec perform many intricate, swirling, lethal dances in his name.
  • Dodge: This highly dexterous unit dodges blades and missiles with ease; its luck is known to run out quickly when facing magical weapons, however.

The Wardancers are a bit of a glass cannon in spite of their physical resistance due to their low armour and health. They excel at scything through lesser infantry, but due to their fragility it's crucial to pick their targets carefully and not let them get mobbed and flanked. Leading with Dryads or Eternal Guard and then using their high speed to flank with Wardancers is often safer.

Avoid high armor top tier elite melee infantry like Black Orcs, Chosen, Swordmasters, or Executioners. While Wardancers can deal some damage with their decent 10 AP, they will be getting hit in return and their lack of armor will ultimately cost them in a 1v1 fight.

Keep in mind they have an active skill that allows them to raise their melee defence in exchange for melee attack. Very useful when fighting lots of much weaker units. The Wardancers will still murder them mercilessly but potentially hold out for a very long time.

Ranged fire and charges by large units should be avoided like the plague as they have no defense against them.
